The Christmas Stone edition by Liz Carlston Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

Sweet short Christmas story that tugs at the heart strings a bit. Would love to see a sequel to this written. The ending left me wanting more story.
I obtained an pre-release copy of The Christmas Stone which I thoroughly enjoyed as a light read, but more importantly felt well nourished and uplifted by it's underlying message. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a little hope around the Christmas season or any season at all. Everyone needs a stone of healing. I was also impressed that all author royalties will be donated to Primary Children's Medical Center located in Salt Lake City, Utah, one of the finest children's hospital's in the West. That alone makes this worth buying a copy in itself. Five stars.
What I like about Christmas Stone

*It's a short story that can easily be ready when the holiday season is already so full
*I really related to the characters in the book. A young female, trying to find her place in this world, and a man in the middle of his life who realizes what's important in life.
*Carlston's written illustrations are easy to capture. Also her plot/idea of taking me as a reader from tragedy to hope was great!

Thinking about getting this for my neighbor Christmas gifts this year. Not only do they get something but I believe proceeds from the book are donated to a Utah Children's hospital.
"The Christmas Stone" is one of those perfect little Christmas books. It is written by Liz Carlston, a young woman who survived the Columbine High School massacre. Since all the proceeds from her book are being donated to Primary Children's Medical Center, it is a worthwhile purchase as well as a worthwhile read.

The story begins with Claire rushing home on December 23rd to Milwaukee to be with her father who is hospitalized. She is beautiful, financially successful and adrift in the lonely life she has made for herself in Colorado. Daniel is about to enter her life as a seat mate on her flight home. He will be meeting his son Spencer for Christmas in Milwaukee as soon as he takes care of an apology to his ex-wife that is long overdue.

During the flight Claire hears the story of Daniel's mistakes and regret and his hope for forgiveness at the end of the flight. He also shares the story of the small "magic" stone he carries in his pocket and how it came to represent what he needed to do to forgive himself and begin the healing process.

The book is small, with only 81 pages. It is easily read on a winter's evening when it's time to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Christmas chores and spend a little time quietly nourishing the soul. Reading "The Christmas Stone" reminds us Christmas should also be a time of love and forgiveness and mending.
"The Christmas Stone" is a small book (81 pages) that would make a delightful Christmas stocking stuffer. The book can easily be read in one sitting -- a really nice comfort during the holidays or anytime. I read this book in September and enjoyed it very much. It would be wonderful to read the book between Christmas and New Year's on a cold evening beside the fireplace or snuggled in a thick soft comforter in bed or on your sofa. This book also has discussion questions at the end which could be used in a book or discussion group. The price is right and as an added benefit, all the royalties from the sale of this book will be donated to the Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

The story centers around two characters--Claire, whose career was so important that she allowed it to rob her of the joy of close family relationships and Daniel, whose unfaithfulness caused divorce and separation from the one true person he loved. The paths of these two unlikely people cross while passengers on an airplane flight to Milwaukee. After many years of neglect and estrangement from her mother and father, Claire is rushing home for the holidays to be with her mom and father who is diagnosed with a tumor. Daniel is also rushing home to talk to his former wife and visit his son, Spencer. For many years Daniel has been carrying a tremendous load of guilt on his shoulders because of his stupidity and unfaithfulness to his wife so many years ago. His guilt is too much to bear and he has made arrangements to meet with his former wife to sincerely ask her for her forgiveness.

Daniel carries a small stone in his pocket wherever he goes. Originally a small boy threw this stone at Daniel's Corvette 15 years previously to the plane ride to Milwaukee. Ever since then he carried the stone and rubbed it for good fortune. You will want to read this book to find the significance of this stone.

I found myself thinking that this book is a common predictable love story where everyone becomes reunited and the past is made perfect and everyone lives happily ever after. However half way through the book, the story takes a rather unpredictable turn. You will not be able to put the book down until you find out about the event that changed the lives of Claire and Daniel forever.

"The Christmas Stone" reinforces the value of close family relationships, faithfulness, courage, honesty and forgiveness. It is so refreshing to read an adult book with clean language and without the use of any four letter words. This is a great read but other than the fact that one of the most important story elements takes place on Christmas Eve, the Christmas connection is very superficial and weak.
There are to many other well written books, even if its a quick read over the holidays. If you read a lot this will disappoint you.
Wished "The Christmas Stone" was just a little bit longer because it as a very nice reading! It certainly hit home with me!
